Franz Valente stands as one of Europe’s most distinctive drummers, celebrated for his originality and versatility across diverse musical genres. Hailing from Trieste, Italy, Franz is a musician, composer, performer, and sound explorer born in 1981. His musical journey began with an early immersion in drumming, which he further honed through formal education, earning a degree in “Electronic Music and Composition” from the Tartini Conservatory of Music in Trieste. Additionally, Francesco shares his expertise by teaching drums and percussion.
In the early 2000s, Franz co-founded Il Teatro Degli Orrori, a band that garnered widespread acclaim for their dynamic live performances, establishing them as one of Italy’s premier rock acts.
Throughout his illustrious career, Franz has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, both in the studio and on stage. From sharing beats with electronic heavyweights like Steve Aoki and Bloody Beetroots, to contributing his rhythmic prowess to alternative rock outfits such as Dave Catching, One Dimensional Man and Robox, Franz's adaptability knows no bounds. He has also ventured into experimental territories, collaborating with avant-garde acts like Riyosuke Kyasu (Jap), Zu and Xabier Iriondo. He has also lent his rhythmic prowess to renowned Italian pop stars such as Caparezza, Afterhours, and Appino.
In 2016, Franz embarked on a new musical venture with the formation of Buñuel (with Eugene Robinson), with whom he has recorded three albums. Their latest release, distributed by the Canadian label Profound Lore, has seen Francesco and the band deliver electrifying performances across Europe, the UK, and Canada.
